About WordPower Express

Why is WordPower Express so powerful?

WPE is the intelligent choice for professionals and parents who view literacy acquisition as the fundamental building block in developing high level communicators and independent thinkers and learners; equipped to lead independent and successful lives within a competitive world.

WPE is significantly more than a ‘remedial package’ or ‘reading recovery’ programme.

  • It does not provide a series of worksheets, spelling lists or written exercises. It offers training, coaching and support to develop advanced knowledge, methodology and skills - enabling practitioners to purposefully instruct and inform; to directly address / prevent literacy difficulties and delay.

WPE is a ‘non linear approach’ that fuses language, literacy and learning skills simultaneously.

  • It generates and sustains ‘expertise’, empowering practitioners / students to structure the different ‘jigsaw pieces’ and almost instantaneously, understand and complete the ‘big picture’; it makes the implicit – explicit.
  • It provides students with the specialist language and framework to rapidly secure the 4 Key Concepts that are essential to understanding the relationship between letters in words.
  • It demonstrates how to apply a raft of specific thinking and learning skills to enable each learner to perceive words differently - to recall and apply sophisticated spelling knowledge; to access and embed information and to rapidly increase their capacity for effective learning
  • It creates ‘word hungry learners’ through radically progressing spoken and written vocabulary, demonstrating techniques that promote and scaffold age appropriate, intellectual challenge and discussion.
  • It empowers practitioners to ‘inform’ and ‘instruct’, to provide ‘lessons’ that stimulate cognitive engagement, that foster knowledge transfer and knowledge capture; that induce and inspire aspiration through feelings of competency and self confidence.

I have not been so excited about teaching in years. I have learned an amazing amount that I can’t wait to introduce to my students. Thank you.

KS3 Teaching and Learning Manager

My Assistant Head and I returned to school rejuvenated and excited by what we could now achieve. We couldn’t wait to get into the classroom and our results this year have far exceeded expectations. How on earth had we got to this stage in our careers without understanding the critical pieces that were missing? I would strongly advocate this course to every member of staff, but in particular every Head Teacher and Teacher Trainer.

Primary Headteacher

The implication for my school is massive. I will make it my mission for everyone to attend this course. There are so many implications for teaching that I am unable to write them all down.

Literacy Co-ordinator

I feel robbed and cheated by the education system - when I was at school, college and university. Why wasn’t I taught this? It seems very basic and essential - to learn how to learn, how to read, write and spell.

There have been many wasted years for me to learn these skills, and many missed opportunities to teach them to children who have been my ‘responsibility’. Now, at last, I have the knowledge to really make a difference.

Foundation Teacher

Teach the language, teach the learning skills, teach each learner how to understand the big picture in a matter of days, then ‘rehearse’, practise and reward!

I absolutely loved the 2 day course for parents, and will be coming back for more. It’s so simple, it’s genius!

Parent

‘I have been listening very carefully over the past two weeks, even when people think I’m not! I think it’s hard to change what you think you are and articulate your knowledge and communicate your ideas. I never thought I would be able to write about Macbeth or enjoy reading Shakespeare. Words were not important to me before.

……I’ve come to realise that ‘victory really does start here’ (student points to brain), and I thank everyone for helping me to ‘articulate’ and understand just that.’

KS3 Student, Pupil Referral Unit

I want to teach my son this. If he can do this too, he won’t end up here like me. I reckon I can teach him.
